Workshop on Nature-based Solution for Coastal Hazard Mitigation "Hanyang University-Kyoto University" (@Kyoto, Jan 2025)
January, 23rd, 2025, The Coastal and Ocean Engineering Lab participated in an international Workshop on Nature-based Solution for Coastal Hazard Mitigation hosted in Kyoto University, Japan. The workshop presented several advanced research results related to nature-based solution and coastal disaster prevention conducted by two laboratories in both Hanyang University and Kyoto University. The workshop pointed out several aspects for research collaboration between two laboratories.


KSOE conference (@Mokpo, Oct 2024)
Prof. Shin and COEL researcher participated anual conference hold by Korean Society of Ocean Engineering in Mokpo, Korea.
Prof. Shin have a presentation for a special sessions of coastal erosion prevention. In his talk, a new technology of implementing hybrid structures to protect coastal communities have been investigated.

Moreover, Dr. Dang was invited as a new researcher to share a lecture for Assessment of protective performance induced by coastal vegetation in flooding mitigation.

Junhyeok Lim, combined Ms-PhD student achieved a best presentation awards issued by president of Korean society of ocean engineering.
ICCE Rome Italy(@Italy, 2024)
Prof. Shin, Dr. Dang and PhD student Junhyeok Lim attended and had 2 presentations related to implementing coastal vegetation and coastal dunes against extreme waves in the 38th International Conference on Coastal Engineering (ICCE). The ICCE is the most prestigious conference, gathering many leading experts in the field of coastal engineering around the world. In the conference, there are several short meetings and discussions for the hot-topics and research experience sharings.
Prof. Shin had a talk, title "Prediction of wave runup affected by dune scarp: a large-scale two dimensional movable bed experiment"

Dr. Dang gave a presentation for "Physical and Numerical Studies on The Efficacy of Mangrove Forest for Wave Attenuation and Structural Impact".

Honoring the Visit of Renowned Kyoto University Professor Nobuhito Mori to Korea (@HYU, June 2024)

Asia Oceania Geosciences Society 21st Annual Meeting (@AOGS, June 2024)
Dr. Dang has a presentation, titled "Numerical Modeling of Effects of Flooding Mitigation Alternatives on Transient Wave Attenuation in Idealized Coastal Communities at the AOGS international conference in Pyeongchang, Korea.

Future Marine Science and Technology Awards (@KOR, May 2024)
Hai Van Dang, PhD Candidate, was selected as a winner of Future Marine Science and Technology Awards for outstanding research results, awarded by Chairman of The Korean Association of Ocean Science and Technology Societies, Prof. Hur Dong-Soo.


Then, he has a presentation for the outstanding research results for comparing the protective performance of green and gray mitigation structures in wave hydrodynamic and loading reduction in the constructed environment
