Incorporating the 18th International Waves Workshop, the 4th International Workshop on Waves, Storm Surges and Coastal Hazards was hosted by the University of Cantabria in Santander, Spain, 22-26 September 2025.

The workshop was held to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and information related to wind, wave, and storm surge hindcasting and forecasting including fully-integrated coastal warning systems, and description of present and future states of the climate. It was also held to promote cross-cutting, multi-disciplinary, scientific/engineering collaboration in the field of coastal risk and resiliency, including long term planning, mitigation, impact-based forecasting and the role of natural protection.

Dr. Hai Van Dang presented his research “Experimental and CFD Numerical Studies of Wave Attenuation Through Mangrove Forest of Moderate Crossshore Width” on the Session Q (Coral Reefs and Mangroves) and shared his findings on the influence of mangrove properties and wave parameters on wave attenuation coefficients and propose its empirical formula to estimate the coefficients using MNLR model and deep learning regression model.
